Anthony Mackie’s latest film, “Night Catches Us,” has just released the official poster for the film.

Marcus (Anthony Mackie, “The Hurt Locker,” “Brother to Brother”) returns to the Philadelphia neighborhood where he came of age during the Black Power movement, protecting a dangerous secret in a struggle against the revolution he once embraced and rediscovering a forbidden love (Kerry Washington, “Ray,” “Lift”).

Actor Hill Harper recently tweeted about his excitement at finally working with Tyler Perry on his upcoming movie, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.”

A lot has happened since Perry announced he would be adapting the Broadway play, originally penned by Ntozake Shange for the big screen. Mariah Carey and Jill Scott didn’t make the cut but Harper joins Janet Jackson, Kerry Washington and Omari Hardwick. We’re keeping a close watch on this movie. Find out what other celebs to expect in the movie. Hint: One of them has a spicy television commercial.

Movie Review: Night Catches Us

Summary: Based in 1976 Philadelphia, former Black Panthers reconnect. Haunted by their pasts and the residuals of a community picking up the scarps after the Panthers end, they are forced to face their present and their future.

Review: Directed by Jamaican-born Tanya Hamilton and featured at the New York International Latino Film Festival, Night Catches Us, is exactly what independent film making should be. No lofty special effects, no extreme violence, or gratuitous sex. It’s a movie that is about the dialogue, the acting, not agenda-driven, but will still make the viewer think.

Marcus (Anthony Mackie) is accused of snitching on one of his Panther members to the cops, which results in his death. Patricia (Kerry Washington) is the widow of the slain Panther, who is struggling with ghosts of the past, which is deeply affecting her daughter Iris, played by an unforgettable Jamara Griffin.

The ‘98 grad, who studied acting, sociology and psychology, received GW’s Alumni Achievement Award in 2008.
